Grace’s Place: More Than a Place to Stay!
Recently, Grace’s Place had the privilege of walking alongside an older youth as she took a very big step toward independence: moving into a place of her own!Finding housing was only the beginning. An empty apartment still needs a bed to sleep in, dishes for the kitchen, towels for the bathroom, and all the little things that turn four walls into a home.
She was truly ahead of the game – she had a car, a job, is going to school full time and even a bit of a savings account! But trying to find an apartment in her price range and someone willing to rent to an 18 year old – were hurdles for sure!
During the previous weeks she had stayed with us at Grace’s Place, she had shown us she could follow our rules, be accountable for her schedule and was always thankful to our staff members. We had no problem giving her a positive recommendation to use going forward.
Because of this, a local businessman agreed to enter into a lease with her. She stated to one of our board members, “This is mine. No one can take it from me.” This same board member reached out to family, friends and other businesses to make this dream even better!
“I put a post on social media asking for donations to help a child served at Grace’s Place. Now, I have random people pledging to pay her rent, asking where/how to drop off gift cards for groceries – the generosity of family, friends and strangers has blown me away!”
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we were able to help her not only secure housing, but also find the furnishings and household essentials she needed to begin this next chapter with dignity and confidence.
This is what your support of Grace’s Place looks like. Sometimes it’s providing a safe place for a child to sleep for a night. Sometimes it’s helping a family through a crisis. And sometimes, it’s helping a young person take those first steps into adulthood knowing she isn’t taking them alone.
